Friday Cat Blogging

I got good email about the cat photos, so today’s installment features Thai Lin. (I apologize for the geographically inaccurate and probably racist name. I think she came to us with that name, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that my parents picked it. While I’m at it, I might as well apologize for the really ugly couch too.) She was adopted into our family when I was about five. She happened to arrive on a day our black Lab, Samson, had run off, and by the time he returned 24 hours later she let him know in no uncertain terms that the entire house and all of us belonged to HER. She was not a very nice cat; I still have the scar from where she jumped me once. I was “play” wrestling with my dad and he was pretend crying, and Thai leaped off the couch and slashed me good. My dad claimed she was protecting him, though given his behavior the rest of the time (not to mention her profound self-centeredness) I don’t know why she would. Her favorite pastime was chewing the horribly deformed plastic toes off my Barbie dolls. I think she chewed the fingers off of Ken also. Something about the texture of that plastic was just so satisfying for her little jaws. Anyway, she was awfully pretty, and we loved her even though she was a great big diva. She passed on during my freshman year in college, I think, about 19 years ago now. Wow.
